In a few days, the EU GDPR General Data Protection Regulation will come into force on 25. May 2018.

We've been working on the topic extensively for over 6 weeks now and have decided to customize JoomISP in relation to the order form.

 

New JoomISP Update Version 2.3.1

One point in the GDPR is the principle of minimization of data according your requirements.

Somewhere this is in conflict with some facts about JoomISP. For example, signing up for a webhosting package may not require the customer's phone number.
On the other side, especially if you want to reach a customer quickly, a telephone call is often the best way to contact.

But for many Domain Registrars a phone number is mandatory for!

Also, the respective control panels need certain data to create contacts and hosting plans, ultimately you would certainly want to write your customers even a bill.

Of course, as we do not know or want to dictate your exact commitment, providers & tools, we have decided to customize the required fields of the JoomISP order form according to your ideas.
Up to version 2.3.0, the input fields of the order form are permanently programmed as required fields! These can of course be adapted via appropriate template overrides, but this requires the creation of overrides and know-how.

In the Version 2.3.1 we built a new point inside the JoomISP Settings where you can define the requirement of each form field in your order form.

For this we created also a new Documentation point "JoomISP & Privacy"!

According to our research, it is necessary for contact or even order forms to refer to the Privacy Policy and explicitly seek the consent of the sender, even if it should be clear to everyone that when he click on "send" the complete data will be "sent".

As far as we know this should be so desired!?!?

Further Tasks on your Website - SSL Encryption & Joomla! Updates

The GDPR also says, that every website operator have to protect the data of his visitors and clients depending current state of the art.

 

For this a SSL / TLS encryption should be present, which is also active on these pages. You can recognize this in the browser bar by the green lock icon and the addition HTTPS.

Especially in times of free Lets Encrypt certificates, the conversion should not really pose a site operator with unsolvable challenges.

Of course, a very important topic is always to keep the software used up to date.
A big CMS like Joomla! regularly releases more or less critical updates, which the site operators have to install in short or long periods of time.

Mostly, the release of an update provide also their vulnerabilities to everyone, which can then be exploited in non-updated pages.

Of course updates are not just about Joomla! itself, but also all Extensions used!

 

For this reason, we recommend you to register in appropriate Groups, Forums & Newsletters to receive the information and to be able to react early.
