Read in this article about our thoughts, decisions and future plans...
One thing in advance - basically we both want to continue the development of JoomISP...
However, our everyday life has been so overcrowded for years that we simply don't have the required time...
The low demand for JoomISP & Joomla 4 also does not allow us to put existing projects & tasks behind!
A vicious circle...
This coming March it will be 7 years, when we took over JoomISP from the original author Jonas Brand.
His biggest motivation to hand over JoomISP was mainly the time factor.
Also, he was mainly a PHP developer and had fun & motivation at exactly this thing, which goes with rising popularity and popularity more and more into the background.
Homepage, marketing, sales, law, tax and especially support are essential time factors, which partly also goes to the substance.
If customers of the basic version come with partly impossible ideas and expectations around the corner, strike a completely inappropriate tone incl. legal threats makes the work on such a project simply no more fun, particularly since we have meanwhile also no longer JoomISP in the use!
To find our work then still 4free on illegal portals, destroys the last breath of motivation... (wink to Nigeria to Solomon Gbeta)
These were among other things also reasons for the price policy of JoomISP...
What's the next step with JoomISP?
In the changelogs you can already see that certain points in the direction of Joomla 4 are already made.
We also have some more in our repo, which just have not yet found their way into the release.
Basically, both of us already have experience from other development projects to work through the rough key points.
Because of the size and complexity of JoomISP this is not a matter thing of a few hours...
I will workout the installation process myself in the next time, so that JoomISP will be installable basically times under Joomla 4.
Then a first alpha version will follow, which we will assign but probably exclusively to the extended packages.
Background is our mentioned problems...
In the login area there are now 2 JoomISP components, Joomla! 4 gets its own ZIP package, so we still have the possibility to release changes for Joomla! 3:
After that, Norbert will mainly advance the development, while I will take care of marketing, documentation & support.
We hope that with this clear division of tasks until August 2023 (end of Joomla 3 support) a stable JoomISP component exists.
However, I would definitely like to point out that this is our personal wish and NOT A PROMISE!!!
I would also like to thank especially our extended users, who promote and maintain the development of JoomISP with your contribution!
Roadmap for JoomISP and Joomla! 4
- Without any promises and naming of exact dates we have internally discussed the following development plan:
2022 JoomISP v4.0.1a (Alpha)
Component installable in Joomla 4
Lists & main views in the backend - 2023 JoomISP v4.1.1b (Beta)
Single views & save function in backend
order form & processing in the frontend - in smaller updates then will gradually integrate functions that are currently available in the Joomla 3 version, eg coupons, the countless individual settings, a.s.o.
Any plugins & modules remain untouched until a stable component is available.
Unless, with one or more customers are agreed on a development contract a time frame...
Just come back here in the next weeks/months, subscribe to the newsletter or follow us on social media, it's worth it....
